Home Schooling Part 8 - The PDSA

This post is slightly mixed but definitely worth posting!!

William and I went on our first arranged Home Schooling trip to the PDSA today. It was an amazing, educational, engaging trip.

We saw around the local hospital got to see in depth the running of it.

1. 2. 3.

1. William used a stethoscope to listen to his heart like they do with the animal.
2. He tried to find Wednesday the cats Micro Chip.
3. He weighed himself on the dogs scales to see if he weighed more that them....he thought he did.

4. 5. 6.
4,5 and 6. We saw where they kept the cats and dogs. They have to sleep in different places because they don't always get on.

7. 8.
7 and 8. Amy showed us the Laboratory they check the pets blood and skin samples here. We also saw some giant bugs that live on our pets. William didn't really like the look of the worms! (and to be honest neither did I!)

9. 10. 11. 12.

9 and 10. We saw some X-rays and found that some of our pets had eaten things that they shouldn't. The cat here had swallowed a coin.
11. This naughty dog was too greedy and ate a spoon.
12. We were very lucky to see a cat being prepped for an X-Ray.

13. 14. 15.
13. William was allowed to see where the animals are operated on and was lucky enough to see a dog being prepped for surgery.

14. We saw the preparation room, this is where the nurses and vets wash their hands and store their surgery tools.
15. The black cages at the bottom are actually where animals would be kept if they can't breathe properly.

16.
16. Before we finished William was allowed to bandage up a poorly Snoopy's sore leg. He loved this and was interested at how stretchy it was and how sticky!

We even got a goodie bag to take home!
Amy was great giving the tour very informative and interacted well with William, so thank you Amy!
William had three questions which were answered, again, brilliantly. It was such a lovely trip out and a great one for our first one.
Every year at Christmas we, as a family, donate and support a Charity and to be honest we hadn't quite decided which one to support yet. But after this amazing trip, William actually asked if we could donate to them, with which I happily agreed. So this year the PDSA will be our given Christmas Charity and would recommend that to anyone looking for giving this Christmas. The work there they do is truly amazing and, even I, was lovely to see the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes.
I will definitely consider them as part of my regular donations for 2015 as well. Great Day and a Great cause.

Thanks for commenting! It was such a great experience. They usually come to schools and do bits buy they were happy to do it as a home school trip. Most importantly William loved it too.

What a brilliant place to visit to learn so much about keeping pets. I bogged last week on Animal Tales about questions you should ask before even thinking about getting puppy and suggested a new puppy owner should spend some time volunteering at a rescue centre. Many thanks for linkig this up with #AnimalTales.

Ah that's a fab thing to do. I agree with Rosie that people should have to volunteer at a rescue centre before getting a pet. It annoys me that so many pets, even puppies and kittens are in rescue and still people breed and buy them. It makes people go down in my estimation rather rapidly. Great post.

Thanks for hosting and commenting! I thought it would be good for William to really learn about animal care and to question bits. To help him appreciate our little dog too.

Completely agree with the two of you. It's so important!! I'm so pleased I organised this with William. I hope and think it really showed him the importance of animal care but also the way to help others with it too.
