The Longest Reign

If you are a fan of the royal family or not, yesterday marked an event that many of us should at least recognise as a point in history; Queen Elizabeth II is now the longest reigning monarch, ruling for 63 years.

One of the boys topics this term is London where, hopefully, we will cover a lot of sub topics under that title. This then seemed like a good idea to include a little now about the Queen.

The Boys embraced it and learnt about Elizabeth and Victoria.

After a chat and some confirmation from the boys to what they understood, we decided to draw some pictures for the Queen.

Here are the finished pictures.

Here is William's picture. William has chosen to draw the Queen in the garden, She, apparently, is having a party and is jumping up and down on a trampoline. Beside her are two of her Corgi's of which, as I am sure you can see, are trying to catch balloons from the party!

James' drawing doesn't actually feature the Queen but more about the things he felt she liked. In the bottom left you will see a picture of one of her Corgi's going for a walk. In the middle you will see a red throne chair and then to the right hand corner you can see her bed. According to James the bed is pink because "I think the Queen fancies a bit of a pink bed".

Above this you will see a rocket ship. Now, according to James this is how the Queen travels. His thoughts on this were simple: "If the Queen can do what she wants then she would travel by rocket ship, it's what I would do".

The boys only took on some basic understanding of who she was and a few of the things that she likes. For the purpose of an introduction that linked with the day I absolutely loved their pictures. What do you think?
