Back in October I wrote a list of Ten things I wish I knew before becoming a Parent which it seemed everyone could relate to at one point
or another.
Since then I have found out that two of my close friends are
expecting children in 2016; one of which I was lucky enough to see this last
weekend.
Whilst sitting and chatting he ended up asking me for advice
on what to expect.
I obviously showed him the previous post but the conversation also extended on to ten more points, which I thought I would share with you.
So here are ten more things I wish I knew before becoming a
parent:I obviously showed him the previous post but the conversation also extended on to ten more points, which I thought I would share with you.
1. Getting dressed
is always a struggle!
It doesn’t matter how old your child gets there is always
something that a child will struggle with when getting dressed. Due to this it can
become a battle when trying to get them dressed. It could be buttons, arms
through the head slot, wiggling toes whilst putting socks on or hoody jumpers
upside down anything; it’ll take you longer than you expect!
2. Getting undress
takes seconds!
Every Parent can get a child dressed in their own individual
time frame. It could take a while especially if the child does all the
wriggling and moving possible. But be warned if your back is turned for a
moment you can find your child naked running around, not having difficulty with
any items!
3. They like being naked.
With point one and two in mind please be aware that they
like being naked. It doesn’t matter if it is warm or cold your child will
always feel comfortable being naked and running around in their birthday suit
like a crazy sports fan!
4. They can destroy a room in minutes.
So you have spent the last hour or the evening before
tidying up and cleaning where possible. But know this, it doesn’t matter within
minutes they can destroy the room. Toys, cards, teddies, dolls or cars, it
doesn’t matter, to cross the room will be at your own risk!
5. If they're tired it doesn't mean they'll
sleep
It doesn’t matter if you have had a long and busy day just
because you can see that they are tired doesn’t mean that they will sleep; they
will be slightly tougher and need more attention! They are, in true fashion, “over-tired”
6. They can fall
asleep in seconds!
Despite point five please know that they can go from talking
and playing to being asleep in seconds. This is usually at the worst time! If
you are planning on going somewhere, it doesn’t matter how long it takes the
second you pull up you will find that they are asleep even if they were talking
to you seconds before!
7. Children have
no sense of cleanliness!
You could cook them the most delicious dinner and they will
tell you that they don’t like it. However, you will catch them licking counter
tops at shops, signs of ice creams, dirt, creatures and anything that shouldn’t
be consumed by humans!
8. You won’t know
current music
You will hear people talking about songs or albums that are
currently released but you will have no idea. What you will know is every word
to the theme tune of their favourite show.
“They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight,
shunting trucks and hauling freight. Red and green and brown and blue, they're
the Really Useful Crew”
9. Cars will
become a travelling baby store
You will have clothes, toys, spare nappies or wipes in your
car. You could have a large enough amount to help other parents out in an
emergency. For Mum’s, this will be extended to their handbag!
10. Children have
a blind spot!
If you ask your child to go get something or pick something
up they will stand directly above it, looking directly at it but they will not
see it. You can specify with them that it is “right there, in front of you” and
they will not see it at all!Hope you enjoyed my random Ten more things. With this post and the previous what would you like to have told yourself before you became a parent?
u
hahaha! This is all so true! When it comes to music it gets even harder the older they get...What teen loves it just noise to me. lol x
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks Kim!oh no! I had hope that it would get easier the older they got! Forgot about teen music!
DeleteHave totally got Thomas the Tank Engine stuck in my brain now! So spot on! Especially that cartoon. Seriously toughest thing ever; but the absolute most amazing gift. #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteHaha sorry Anna! The song was stuck in my head when I wrote this!
DeleteI hate to tell you this Martyn but that blind spot isnt a kids thing, its a male thing. They will never grow out of that!!
ReplyDelete#Bestandworst
Oh dear!! Where's this light of hope I was waiting for?
DeleteOh my goodness Martyn this is brilliant. I was nodding along to every point. It's not just my kids! Hooray! I'm heading over to check out the original post now. :) #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteHaha thank you. Am pleased you liked it! I think we all have kids that fit into this. Great, am sure you'll enjoy that too.
DeleteMartyn this is ace. I love the stripping and naked ones. My daughter ran around in town in a summer vest and a holy cardigan today as refused to wear a coat!! She was fine. Mustn't feel the cold lol. Ps the blind spot one made me laugh. Drives you nuts. Thanks for linking with #bestandworst and see you soon xx
ReplyDeleteHaha only kids could get away with that! The putting the coat on is always a battle here too.
DeleteThis is fabulous. Yes to all of the above. Licking signs of ice creams really made me giggle. Brilliant post. #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks! My youngest os terrible with it. Will lick anything but won't eat tomatoes for fear of them being yucky haha
Delete:-) I love this! I was smiling through the whole thing saying, "Yep, that's my kids." The only ones my kids no longer do are 6 & 8 but that's because I have a teenager and an almost nine year old. I introduce them to music but now my teenager has been introducing me to music, which is kinda weird for me, being an avid music lover but he's branching out into his own thing. All of the other stuff though especially pertains to my 8 year old. I have been rearranging my house and getting it ready for holiday guests and just last night within minutes after finishing the living room, my son decided to drag out all of his little lego minecraft guys, his minecraft sword, and a nerf gun. He did this all in a span of 30 seconds when I walked into another room to get something. And talk about the nakedness. Both of my boys still want to run around in their underwear. As soon as they come home from school, the first thing they do is take their clothes off. I have to remind them both to at least keep their pants on. LOL! Visiting from #happydiaries
ReplyDeleteHaha glad you could relate to it!
DeleteI suppose you get more challenges when they're older. Oh no! Nightmare and bad timing!
Hahaha brilliant! I wonder when they stop wanting to get undressed!
That Thomas song used to be the number one song in my house. And my god lets not talk about the blind spot. My 7 year old does this to me whenever I ask him to get things that are right in front of him. I try to direct him many times and end up frustrated and getting it myself lol #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteHaha the Thomas song is rather catchy! I hate the blind spot! It's so annoying! Why can't they just see what's there....even more so when directed as much!
DeleteHahaha, brilliant, Martyn! The Wiggles Hot Potato is always playing in my head and the Top 10 hits on my iPhone is not mine. The Apps on my iPhone is also not mine. *sigh* they take over everything! Thanks for sharing with #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteThanks glad you liked it! Haha they definitely do take over everything!
DeleteAbsolutely brilliant post! The blind spot is so true and the nakedness! Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily! I wish they told us these things so we would learn to cope!
DeleteI can so identify especially the nakedness. Takes ages to get the sods changed but a nano second to get naked, lol! #blinkylinky
ReplyDeleteHaha why though? That I'll never understand!!
DeleteMine are almost 10 and 11 now....and I hate to tell you this but so many of these are still true for mine,,,so you have a few more years yet ;) Thanks for linking up to #TenThings Mr K :)
ReplyDeleteStevie :)
Oh no!and there was me having some hope that it might change soon!
DeleteYes to all of these! My #TenThings post is similar - things they don't tell you about being a parent - it's funny how quickly things can change isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteOh I can't wait to read now! Oh how I wish they'd tell us this! Ha definitely doesn't take long to change!
DeleteAll very very true, I can recall examples of all of these very clearly, even though it would be a few years ago now...
ReplyDeleteWhat is it with the naked thing?!Mine are sods for it and at totally inappropriate times too!#tenthings
ReplyDeleteHaha this made me giggle! The blind spot is so true! Hilarious! And yes mine love being naked?! X
