If you have followed me on social media then you will know that
I have had some good news but before I tell you I will just remind you of what
had happened.
After months of a rigours application process to update my
photo driving licence the DVLA had decided to revoke my licence on medical
grounds; their decision made me practically housebound. The battle seemed long and hard and every initial investigation showed me that I would be waiting 12 – 18 weeks for a decision to be made. There was no appeal process just a reapplication and this left me heart broken.
I knew they were wrong and anyone who had read the previous
post would and could see that it was wrong. With this in mind I took to every
path possible to fight it.
It is on this then that I bring you good news; the DVLA has
restored my licence fully and I am, once again, legally allowed to drive!
I am so happy because it was starting to get to the point
where I was beginning to lose hope.
I spent nearly every day either on the phone to one of the
different medical teams that look after me to push for evidence, communication
and an answer. I did exactly the same to the DVLA where I chased them for every
piece of information that I could get; I was determined that this would change.
On contacting the DVLA on Friday morning to see if the
paperwork that I had sent had been scanned on the system, considering they had
told me that it could take 4 weeks, I was informed that it had been scanned on
and marked as a priority.
Well this latter part, however amazing, did make me question
why it all of a sudden has marked me as important.
There seemed to be a short and simple reply: “In the
comments it mentions public awareness”
This is where I say a massive thank you to you all!
My original post has been read by just over 10k people. It
had been shared hundreds of times across different social media and not only
that many of you, in support of me, contacted them directly!
In addition to you beautiful lot helping me I had contacted
newspapers who had investigated the problem (Of which they couldn’t publish the
story…that is complicated in itself) and my local MP investigating the problem.
So for what would have been 12 – 18 weeks took 18 days.
I still have to wait for my photo licence to be posted to me
but that is okay, I can now drive again!
THANK YOU!!! You have not only helped and supported me in
this stressful and difficult time you have also helped me to get mobile again!

DeleteThrilled to read this :-) An 18 days you could have done without. Interesting how sensitive they are to public perception - with some decisions large organisations make you often think they exist in a bubble!
