Fireworks Night 2017

On Sunday night the Boy's and I went to my Dads where we are joined by the neighbours and their family as well as my brothers family (15 in-laws in total and 20 people altogether) to celebrate Bonfire Night with a "Firework Party".

Anyway, Firework Night is a big event in our household, especially where we don't celebrate Halloween, and with us completing all of our firework related crafts I thought that I would show you all what we get up to.

With the Bonfire lit and the Guy, made by my dad, chucked on the top with a loud cheer we were ready to have some fun.

All the children, and some of the adults ;) , were supervised and we had a chance to light our sparklers.

It was then time for some of the smaller fireworks. These little boxes, once alight, sprayed sparks and colours into the air.

What I enjoyed most, and something that I hope you can see in the photos, was the way the different colours illuminated the garden. Admittedly, we did have 6 of these and they were a tad repetitive after the first couple but I just enjoyed the change in colours!

The final 2, seen above and below, were quite violent ones spraying real sparks into the air! It shook us up a little after thinking that they were going to be the same as the ones before!

The selection that resembled the ground fireworks but also shot rockets up into the air in little bursts.

We stopped and had a break before we started the rockets (the part we were all waiting for) and we all enjoyed Hotdogs. I have to admit that usually I would find these rather tacky, in my eyes, where they would be the tinned hot dogs and rubbish soft buns but this year was different. The in laws seemed to have pushed the boat out and had real sausages and a nice warm baguette to go with it.

The it was time for the rockets! My brother had set them up earlier in the day and he was in charge of lighting them. (Can you imagine the danger of me bending over a firework and trying to light it!! I think that would have been equally amusing and dangerous for all involved)

My brother, as always, left the larger and bigger exploding fireworks at the end for the big finale! As far a I counted there were 20 rockets in total in the final sequence which is possibly the most that we have ever had to finish with.

Some were loud and quick bursts and others these dazzling light exploding. A newer ones compared to our previous parties were these quick fire rockets that didn't seem to end after rapid firing!

I suppose there isn't too much to say about the different types that you can't see from the photos below. I will say though that I think I have caught the excitement of colour more this year!

I absolutely love this day every year. It is a tradition to get together, as a family and with extended family and friends, to share food, laughter and an evening of "ooo's" and "ahhhh's".

The only thing that we need to consider next year is the possible venue! We have always held it at my Dad's house, which he doesn't mind, but with an ever growing family and the aim to make each year bigger and better I am sure we might be pushing our luck when it comes to space even if we do have a relatively large garden! That said, with everything going on with Dad it isn't always clear what next year will bring.

It is a great night and a real social gathering for us and the children and for us to enjoy close family time. It is definitely something I will be looking forward to next year too!
