My Little Chef - Chocolate Chip Shortbread Biscuits

William has wanted to bake again for a while and this week we were lucky enough to find an opportunity. With our biscuit cutters finally arriving since we moved it felt like biscuits is a great choice.

Ingredients

225g plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
225g unsalted butter
100g caster sugar
125g chocolate chips

William started by measuring out the flour and then carefully sifted the flour into a bowl.

He then added the baking powder and the chocolate chips to the flour and stirred them in. William wanted to add the chocolate chips now as he remembered that coating them lightly with flour prevented them from sinking to the bottom of the mix.

He next measured out the caster sugar and butter and mixed until fluffy and light.

William then added the creamy sugar and butter mix to the flour and mixed by hand to create a ball of dough. This part he specifically wanted to do by hand to help combine the ingredients properly; he also enjoyed the messy part to this.

Once the dough was made he placed flour on to the work surface and rolled the mixture to around 1cm thick. Using the cutter he carefully cut out the biscuit shape and placed upon a ungreased baking tin.

William repeated the steps of creating a dough ball, rolling out and cutting until he couldn't create anymore biscuits.

(He pointed out that if there was any left over that eating these bits is a necessary part of baking)

Daddy then placed the baking tins in to the preheated oven (150c) for 20 minutes or until they were lightly golden.

Once baked they were placed upon a rack to cool.

The final stage is to sit and enjoy the biscuits.
