Blue Monday

I can't be the only one that is glad to have January over?

I have always found it a horrid month! The Boys seem to be grouchy and suffering from January Blues but rationally they have every right to be.

We have spent over a month preparing for Christmas, shopping, facing the maddening crowds and then the panic to make sure that our family time is perfect.
We have had time off work and broke our normal routine with family enjoyment, late nights and over indulging in food and drink. Just over a week later and we are back to work, back to early mornings, school runs, making lunches and the true concept of adult and parent life continues. Blue Monday seems to then be the hit of all of this.
We has a week to forcefully wake ourselves up and get our children ready and organised. We dragged ourselves back into a routine that I know a lot of people were dreading; especially when there were hundreds of Facebook status’ and Tweets saying exactly that.
A week on week we are slowly getting used to a routine again.
The weather is still dreadful and we still have dark morning and coming come in the dark despite it being around 5pm. Who wouldn’t feel slightly depressed, grumpy and tired?
No surprise really that if the children are affected that we would be too! Monday the 18th January was officially Blue Monday! The day where we all feel a little depressed.
Despite having the Boys I will openly admit that I spent the day indoors with them, scrapped Home School and we watched movies under a blanket.
It was fantastic then to receive a box from Wynsors Shoes to help make Blue Monday and January a little better for us.

What was in this box?

  • Cupcake Mix
  • Cupcake Decorations and Sweets
  • Mini Jenga
  • Notebook
  • Photo frame
  • Trainers

Being the foodie family that we are we decided to make our cupcakes first! The boys decided that they wanted to use the blue icing, decorated with the marshmallows and have them on top of the chocolate cupcakes.

The packet mix was straightforward to use and we made our mix within 10 minutes. We just needed to add some water and an egg! Then they were popped in to the oven!

By the way that the Boys quickly stuffed them in their mouth I can tell you that they were a success!

As stated above the weather has ben dreadful! We were lucky then to take advantage of one of the horrible days and try the mini box of Jenga!

Small and compact but still just as much fun; even if Daddy was getting a little stressed at having to rebuild it every 5 minutes! ;)

The trainers are fantastic! They are designed for men and for running and although I lack the ability to run due to my Muscular Dystrophy it didn't mean that I couldn't enjoy them!

Surprisingly for some the one thing I would know about and that is a good pair of trainers! I need a decent pair otherwise it can massively impair my walking.

Ideally when choosing trainers I am looking for a few things:

  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Good Grip
  • Easy to put on and off

As you can see from the picture the grip on the bottom of the trainers are great. They passed all of my grip tests both on and off of my foot. The weight of the trainers surprised me! They seem like they will be heavy but they're far from it; actually they're one of the lightest pair of trainers I have ever worn! They are not only comfortable but they have enough give to also fit my leg straps inside as well as being easy to access!

I can see that they would work well for people who run for the same features that I look for. Personally I will be looking at Wynsors Shoes for my trainers and shoes in the future!

The notebook is tiny and admittedly when I saw it I was in doubt if I would use it because of it's size. That being said it hasn't left my pocket since I received it! It's perfect for jotting anything that pops into my mind that I am more than likely to forget with the busy Dad life that I have!

This box definitely helped us survive January and Blue Monday! It made the cold horrible days more fun, helped me not to lose my mind and become depressed as well as fun and entertaining for the Boys.

Did you guys get January Blues? Did you struggle on Blue Monday? Are you pleased to have January over and out of the way?
