Decorating the Boys Room

We are now in February and that, for us, is a Birthday Month. In just over 2 weeks William will be turning 7.
I can’t believe how quickly those 7 years have gone by; year on year so much happens that it makes each blend together.

This last year has been exactly the same but the biggest thing to take our focus was us moving house.
It is amazing how long it actually takes to settle in and have things the way that suits us. I think we have, after 7 months, finally settled in.

We spent a lot of time in the summer out in the garden and making that look better and prepping it to be ready for this coming Spring.
With Winter hitting we cosied in, put the heaters on, got our blankets out and braced the last few months. In that time I managed to put my personal and geeky stamp on my room yet I haven’t done anything to the Boys room!

At the moment their room is for sleeping in and they use the rest of the flat for either Home Education or for relaxing and living but I have felt quite bad that they are not taking advantage of the space they have in their room.

So with William’s birthday approaching I thought I would make one of his presents a renovation of the bedroom.
This, for me, is a big decision. It has to be both suitable to their likes and tastes that highlight their personality, be suitable for both play and learning and provide adequate space for all of their possessions and toys.

I will admit though that I am absolutely useless at Home design and improvements. I am one of those men that have those “great ideas” but in practice they don’t really work and are definitely practical! (I know, I’m a nuisance!)
So instead of making a complete mess of it all I have spent a lot of time looking online at places like Homify to get a grasp at the potential designs and kids bedroom ideas that would suit us.

I think I have a couple of ideas that I might go with.
Absolutely love the idea of this chalkboard wall with the tree bookshelf going across! I think it actually suits both a fun and learning environment.

I am thinking on the other wall to take advantage of their geeky streak and put some Graphic Comic design with some of their favourite characters; either painted on by myself or wallpaper.

The final part that I am left with then is their walk in storage space.

All the Boys clothes are in drawers in either their room or mine so I would like something more creative. A reading space, units that work for Toys, Books and other items of theirs. I have looked around but just can’t, at the moment, decide what to do with it.

As always I would love your input!
What do you think of the design ideas above? Have you got any ideas for what I could do in the other space?

Hopefully I can decide and get it done around or just after William’s birthday!

(This was a collaborative post. My opinions are my own and I am under no obligations to give a positive review. Please see my full disclosure at the bottom of my blog)

  1. I think decorating his bedroom for his 7th is a great idea. I have done this for my kids too. Also, LOVING the chalkwall and tree book shelve!!! Adults could have that in their bedrooms too right? haha. #BlogSleepRepeat

  2. I wrote a post recently about how we updated my son's bedroom on a budget, I had lots of (Pinterest inspired) ideas but it ended up a bit of a mish mash. No real theme but he loves it nonetheless. It's amazing how much different a few wall stickers, banners etc can make. As for storage, could you get a small wardrobe in there and jazz it up with new handles, photos etc? x

    1. Thanks Laura. I have had a good look for different ideas. I think it'll be a bit or a mash up. That's a good idea. Was thinking something similar.

  4. My A's room is the only room (bar the kitchen which just wants ripping out lol) which needs doing too so don't feel to bad! I'm looking at marvel and avengers posters and art I do like that chalk wall would just use chalk paint on the wall and that's it? Probably a no no private renting though! The shelf would drive me mad though just shelves should be straight haha
