Garden Love

As a child Mum tried to keep the house clean and tidy; the house was her domain. With two small boys and at one point a mum with dementia it wasn't always easy.

Dad's Domain was the Garden though. He always had a vegetable patch down the garden, two greenhouses to grow a variety of things and an extensive garden.

The problem here though was that had good intentions with very little productivity. The vegetable patch and the greenhouses produced well but the boarders and flower beds were always a mess. This thing was that the above picture seemed to be true!

Some how I have gained my Dads want to have a nice garden but also gained motivation to keep it going.

With moving to the new flat we have a small garden; this, to be honest, is ideal for the three of us.

The garden itself is quite a mess though so it seemed to make sense to use a few days with the boys and concentrate on improving it.

As you can see it was massively over grown and needed a good clear out; the boys love demolishing things, as all small boys do, so the three of us got on to clear as much as possible.

We started on one border and pulled up as much as we could; at one point, as you can see above, even the dog decided to help out!

We then proceeded on to the next border.

Once we cleared the majority of the bigger weeds we worked on gathering up the smaller pieces.

The following day we went to the local market where we picked up some lovely plants to put in some pots we found under the over grown mess.

The boys worked really hard together to fill the pots with soil and compost. One ended up digging the hole whilst the other put the plant in. Until we had three lovely decorated plant pots.

The Garden transformation already looks fantastic. The boys and myself worked extremely hard but it was great to do it as three.

Apart from the fact that gardening is and can be a great family activity, I would also hope that I help the boys to have the same want and enjoyment that I have in doing it.

There is still a lot to do but this is definitely a good start. Hopefully we'll do more of these posts so you can see the change!

Well done boys! It looks so much better. I can't wait for mine to come to life.
