My Little Chef - Review and Win! - Santa Maria Pulled Chicken

Recently we were contacted by the Santa Maria team to try their Pulled Pork and Chicken Kit. Of course, being the foodies that we are, we jumped at it.

Last time I was contacted by them they asked me to review the Pulled Pork and I will honest and play the bad Dad card here and admit that I made it without the boys. I felt quite guilty about it so was pleased when they contacted me and asked if I wanted to do it with Chicken; a time for William to have a go!

Ingredients

Santa Maria Kit
Small Chicken
Onions
Mushrooms
Peppers

Method

Inside the box you will find a seasoning mix, red onion, BBQ sauce and 8 wraps.

Following the information provided on the packet William tore open the top of the seasoning mix to find a bag to cook the pork in. The lower half of the packet contained the seasoning.

Continuing with the instructions, he placed the small chicken into the bag and emptied the seasoning over it. He then filled it with the amount of water suggested, using the tie provided William then sealed the top of the bag and mixed the ingredients together, rubbing it into the chicken where possible.

It is clearly stated on the packet that you have to make sure that the bag is not touching the sides of the oven; with heat provided the bag will expand.

Whilst the Chicken cooking in the oven he started to prep the other ingredients. William carefully sliced the mushrooms, peppers and onions.

William then lightly fired the mushrooms and peppers is a pan and separately fried the onions using the seasoning mix.

(I totally get that he didn't use Red Onions but I didn't think that it would matter too much!)

90 minutes later and it was time to take the chicken out of the oven. Please be careful when opening and emptying the bag! It is hot and full of steam; you might be able to even see the heat coming off of the meat. Definitely advise that an adult does this part!

He carefully removed the meat from the juices and, using two forks and his fingers, shredded and pulled the meat apart.

Last time I diverted from the suggested instructions and I decided that I would recommend that William did the same.

(These are my actions and not suggested by Santa Maria.....although they should totally suggest this!)

The seasoning mix added had such a great taste that I was completely and immediately smitten with it. Subsequently, this left me wondering what to do with the rich and delicious sauce that remained in the bowl after removing it from the bag! It was clearly to good to throw away! With this in mind I carefully placed it into a saucepan and reduced it down on a low heat to make it a thick and tasty sauce.

With all the ingredients now cooked and ready William placed the wraps in the microwave for 45 seconds. He then placed a small amount of each ingredient into the wrap and gently poured small amount of the gravy over the selection.

Using the provide ingredients, following the instructions meant that this could be a quick and easy meal for all of the family to enjoy. It is promised to be a 90 minute cooking time and I can agree that it took that long to do; however, if you follow William's example and reduce the seasoning into a sauce then it will take longer!

Just like last time the real gem within this pack is definitely the Seasoning Mix. I haven't tasted anything like it and it definitely added flavour to the meat as well as becoming a delicious gravy and sauce to accompany our meal.

The wraps are the smaller ones which actually made it perfect to handle for the boys rather than trying to hold all the ingredients into a larger one. The would make a perfect bite size meal for all the family to enjoy!

With this in mind I really would recommend buying this kit for a family meal. My particular take on the ingredients and my recipe would definitely make a change to festive family dinners!
