My Little Chef - Apple and Pork Burgers

We made homemade burgers last week. It was a simple recipe with pork mince, onion and some peppers.

Whilst making them Will raised a question: Would a stuffing mixture taste good as a burger?

Well, as always, there was only one way to find out. So this week we gave it a try.
Ingredients

Pork Mince
2 Apples
2 Onions
Sage
Salt
Pepper
Bread rolls
Cheese

Resources
Cutting Board
Sharp Knife
Large bowl
  Grill pan
Utensils
Cookie cutter
Spatula

Method

Whilst using a chopping board and a large knife, William started by peeling, slicing and then finely chopping 2 onions.

He then did the same with 2 apples.

William then placed them into a large bowl.

He then measured out the pork mince and added it to the bowl with the chopped apple and onion. We, a family of 6, made enough to have 2 burgers each.

He then added the salt, pepper and sage to the mixture.

William the started to mix the mince, apple and onion together in the bowl.

*I was quite proud of Will here. He started brilliant but admittedly started to get a little overwhelmed sensory wise mixing but carried on anyway*

He then got a pan to place the burgers on. Using a large cookie cutter Will placed the mixed ingredients into the cutter and pressed down hard. He pressed around the edges to create the burger shape.

William then pressed down but pulled the cutter up so the burgers were resting in place.

He then placed them under the grill to start cooking.

He was continually watching the burgers to make sure that they didn't burn under the grill. When he thought they look cooked he used a spatula to turn them over and grill the opposing side.

Once they were ready he took them out of the over and drained the fat from the pan.

He then granted some cheese.

William then placed them in the bread rolls and added the cheese on top so it could melt a little.

He decided to not add any salad to this burger. I asked him why and he said that the burgers were big enough not to add anything else.

*I would have to agree with him there. They were so big that you needed to use 2 hands*

So, to answer William's question from the top, "Would a stuffing mixture taste good as a burger?" The answer is Yes!

They were really delicious! The apple added a crunch but complemented the pork and onion. It was everything that our homemade stuffing was but with the added bonus of cheese and in a burger form.

It was such a hit that we've added it to our meal plan to do again soon.

What do you think? Will you give this a go?

  1. I made burgers very similar to this a little while ago and they were such a big hit. They are so simple to make and it's very easy to make them too big. I did. lol
