Home School - Literacy and a Surprise

As you may have noticed from my previous posts that I enjoy combining every day life with the current Home School topics.

On Sunday the boys and I went to go visit Al over at The Dad Network; the plan was to surprise him and to meet two of us (Tommy a vlogger with Oliver Says) from The Dad Network. All was organised and we did have a lovely day!

Our current Home School Literacy topic is Captions and Storyboards I felt it a great idea to use the photos of the day to engage William.

(I also decided to multi-task and layer in I.C.T to this topic; what you see below was written by William)

This is Al. We surprised him.

There were 10 children there.

We went to the park and played.

We went home and ate pizza.

Tommy and Oliver spoke to Daddy and Al. Oliver was funny.

We had a good day.

This was definitely a good way to engage William. He enjoyed remembering the events of the day through the pictures that we had. In practice he described in great detail what was happening; the important part of this activity though is that he created clear and informative captions for each picture.

Captioning and creating a storyboard is a good way for children when learning to structure events and order a beginning, middle and end. I will be posting tomorrow the reasoning behind this as a topic as it is something we can all do as parents even if the children are schooled.

Mrs dad network was on the ball. Feeding 10 kids and keeping it a surprise until we knocked on the door could not have been an easy task lol. Amazing families, awesome friends
