I am way behind on my tagged posts but this one really
interested me so I thought I would do it; only recently was I reminded that my
blog is for the Boys. It started off as a place for me to rant, express one
sided views and spout my opinions from my soap box; however, since Home
Schooling the boys and having a regular routine with access with them my blog
changed direction.
It became something that is a legacy for the Boys to read
about me and all the things that we do together.
So this tag I thought was perfect, so here are my 5 Life
Lessons that I want to pass on to them:
1. Be Happy by yourself
This is something that I massively struggle with; isolation
and finding motivation to do activities by yourself is a big difficulty for me.
This is probably due to the D.P.D but that being said it wasn’t something that I
was ever comfortable with.
I think being happy by yourself and doing things that you
want is crucial at times for a happy self.
2. Be Loyal
The world can be a cruel place, there are often many
scenarios where I, or others that I know, have been given abuse or have been
treated badly by others. I would love my boys to know that despite all of this
that who you are and who you interact with can make a difference.
Being a loyal person to your Family, Friends and Work is
something that you should always be proud of; despite my first point being
happy by yourself, I do think that being loyal to the things that you have is
important.
A true value of a man is not his possessions but by the
people and family he has around them; something that I often remind myself of.
3. Be a Dad
It took me many years,
sadly, to realise this fact; there was a time when I put work and friends
before myself and worse before my marriage. It was a lesson that I truly learnt
the hard way.
As the saying goes “Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a Dad”
4. Know your self-worth
This is a straight forward one; the world will always be
cruel and unkind, there will always be difficult times ahead.
Never forget who you are, what you’re good at and what you
are more than capable doing!
5. It’s O.K to get things wrong
We all make mistakes, we all try something and fail and we
all have made the wrong decision from time to time.
But that is O.K!
Never hide from what you could do because of fear of
failing; there’s no point living in “what if’s” or “I could have done this”.
Accept that it went wrong but know that it’s O.K to try again.

Hard post to follow Martyn. Very good lessons there.
What a brilliant post, Martyn. You always write with such wisdom. Your boys are so lucky to have such an inspiring father. I agree with all these life lessons. I think it is especially important to know your self-worth. If you don't then no one else will. Thanks for tagging me. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
Thanks Alan. There are probably a few things here that make me want to tell the boys but I thought that these 5 would be the best. I'm sure you'll come up with something.
Thanks I'm pleased you liked it. There are quite a few things that I want to share with the boys but these felt like the main ones. Couldn't agree more about the self worth and it's something I don't always find easy to do with myself so would hope that the boys would be able to. Good luck with doing yours I'm sure you'll have great ones!
Great post. I have also been tagged for this one, I really can't manage to think of them at the moment though! I love all the memes you've used and some really important messages there too.
Thanks Natalie. I found a few that I knew that I had to put straight away. There's some that I thought about but to be honest it's one of those posts that take a bit of thinking.
Lol thanks. Well I was told that you should always put a picture of types in the blog and these were the closest that I could find that matched my lessons.
Excellent life lessons I think no. 5 is the biggest win, learning it is OK to make mistakes can be one of the hardest lessons to learn as a growing person, it is something many adults still cannot quite comprehend.
Thanks Ashley! I know it something that I really struggle with! I really take things hard and am usually hardest on myself. It's something though that I don't want my boys doing and even now I show them not to worry. I hope though that they manage to do this where I haven't.
Excellent thoughts, Martyn. I particularly like the point you make about loyalty. The world has become such a fickle place these days that true loyalty is such a rare commodity and something to be treasured.
Thanks Tim. I'm extremely loyal. It can be a fault at times but it's a good trait that I hope the boys do take on board the way that I have. It is something to be treasured.
Perfect lessons. I think they are some of the basics to being a decent human being.
Thanks! I totally agree
