Things my Parents said

The most devastating thing happened to me this week.

O.K maybe that is a bit of an over exaggerating statement but the realisation of it left me standing still and questioning the adult that I have become. Let me explain why:

This week has been a week where I have found myself turning into my Parents, especially my Mum.

My Mum was a fantastic lady: she was warm, caring and would go the extra mile for anyone but there was also the side of her which was strict, firm and to be completely honest a little scary; ultimately the best kind of parent that you could ask for.
One thing that was true about her and her parenting style was that she would say those ridiculous sayings.

This week I found myself doing the same:
William was standing up in front of the T.V, not too close but from the point of view of us on the sofas he was standing close enough to block the screen. Subsequently this phrase came out of my mouth:

“Will, you make a great door but a rubbish window can you move out of the way please?”

Why? What suddenly urged me to say this? I have been parenting for 6 years now and I have never uttered such things! But sadly it got worse……
If you have been following my posts then you will know that the boys are going through a ‘Daddy said' stage where they create ridiculous scenarios of what I might have said. I subsequently followed them to find out more and on hearing one of these and then their subsequent excuse that they came up with I uttered this old chestnut of a phrase:

“Are you kidding me? I wasn’t born yesterday!”
Then following that I said something far worse:

And finally,
With the weather being nicer and us being able to go out on more day trips which obviously has allowed the boys to become slightly more annoying excitable I ended up saying this classic:

“If you don’t stop annoying each other I will turn this car around!”

Which we all know I am not going to do considering I have been driving 40 odd minutes to get to where we were going!
Sadly I have come to the conclusion that I must be sick and have some form of parenting Tourette's.

It has got me wondering though…….
Have any of you said sentences that your parents have said that you thought you would never utter?

If so, what were they?

Now you have me wracking my brains. I had a day a while back where, like you, I found the phrases tripping off my tongue and when I stopped to think about what I was saying and it didn't really make sense. I cant think right now but I will be back to when i remember. #PoCoLo

Thanks for commenting Kim. Haha I haven't used these yet but I do worry that they older the boys get that these are the ones that will come out of my mouth.

Oh definitely, I say ridiculous things that my parents used to say all the time. I suppose it's fairly inevitable, the sole never falls far from the tree and all that... Actually, I think my mum uses that one ;)

I have started to do this as well. Normally along the lines of not feeling the benefit if you don't take your coat off.

Ha I think everyone is right and it's bound to happen lol its either a great compliment to our parents or a worrying sign for us. At least I don't feel so bad knowing everyone else does it!
