Home School - Maps - Part 2

If you have been following our Home School journey then you will know that we are doing a topic on Maps

The Boys and I have been Overwhelmed with the response to this topic and we really can't believe how wonderful you all are for sending us Postcards and letters.

Before we looked into the different areas that you sent us we needed a Map!

Using 2 A3 pieces of wood!

I carefully drew the UK over the two pieces. (This was actually a lot harder than I thought! My poor mind just couldn't justify that it was at an angle!)

We separated the 2 boards and started to paint the sea in.

Once we covered all of the sea areas, which we painted carefully around the land, we took it outside to dry.

Once dry we started adding Paper Mache to the mainland; we made the paper mache out of newspaper, PVA glue and a little soap water.

Like the paint we took each piece outside to dry in the lovely sun.

Our next job was to paint the lovely dried and bumpy mainland. We used 2 different types of green acrylic paint to give a range of colour over the map.

Once both parts were dry we brought them in and put them together now having a large 3D map of the UK to fill up with all the lovely post that you are sending us.

Please look out for more on this topic! Especially when we feature you in our round up!

It looks great! Looking forward to seeing it develop. Are they going to add landmarks too? I really want to do this with my boys when they're a bit bigger! :-)
