Sometimes......

We are starting back with our home education this week and although we will be taking it easy to start I am hoping to jump back into the swing of things as soon as possible.
That being said I think about how we will be sitting around the table doing one activity and then have some freedom before we possible head back to some structured work, and I feel a little sad. I know many children will be in the same boat; stuck at a desk for 6 hours a day with minimal breaks to stretch their legs, run around and socialise.
This is what school aged children do; in fact, it is what many adults do. (Well without small breaks to run around….or do you do that?)
However,  last week, something jumped out at me on our trip to the local country park; sometimes you just have to let kids run around and have a moment of wild fun!
The boys can do social constraints and pleasantries when they want to or are blackmailed motivated to. Yet, there are also moments when they become little wildlings and regress back to a primordial state shadowing a monkey that knows how to use tools!
This day trip out was the same; I basically let them loose into the woods. The path was ahead was clear; sometimes you have to follow it...........

Sometimes you can find a large log that you need to carry and show your strength!

(To me, to you!)

Sometimes you are on the constant look out for trees that you want to climb and see how far up you can get up!

Sometimes you are on the look out for long sticks that are half a walking stick and half a weapon against the enemies that are hiding!

(May the odds be ever in your favour)

Sometimes you have to take the difficult way round and climb on a hill because it's like conquering a mountain!

Sometimes you have to get a dirty bottom where you wanted to slide back down it!

Sometimes you find giant pieces of stone that you want to climb on because they're ruins to some fortress!

Sometimes you have to sit and hide like a woodland elf!

And, finally, sometimes you just need to sit and laugh.

I know with term starting back, new uniforms, homework, routine, social issues and drama, craft work, school friends, birthday parties and then we will suddenly be watching them bring home Christmas decorations! It always happens and we suddenly see the school year fly by.

This year, for us, I am going to take a leaf out of the boys book and have a day where sometimes something happens.
