Review - Greedy Granny

We were given a great opportunity to review some new games from Tomy; Greedy Granny

We instantly loved this game and it seemed to tickle our cheeky silly side.

The game is simple: Granny loves eating biscuits and wants to keep them all to herself. But, the moment she lays backwards she nods off and it is a moment to strike and steal the as many biscuits you can unless you accidently wake her!

Of course I completely empathise with poor granny here; the moment I sit down and relax I often feel the need to nod off and it is usually the prime opportunity for the boys to get up to no good! I find this subtle and comical resemblance to real life a encouraging want to play the game.

The Unboxing

Granny comes in 2 separate parts; her top half and her bottom half/chair and tray.

The top comfortably fits into the bottom with very little assembly, in fact the boys did it after watching once!

You also get 3 other parts; plastic pretzels, a selection of biscuits and the all important set of granny's teeth!

The biscuits are small and although should be bright and large enough not to worry I would possibly consider that they could be a choke hazard.

Granny's teeth are cute and definitely make the part of the game. They fit perfectly into her mouth and have plenty of movement room.

Game Play

As mentioned above the game play is practically simple in the concept of "stealing" granny's biscuits before she wakes up. However, there are added components to make the game more interesting!
The game comes with a spinning wheel that creates an extended play.
If you land on a green segment then you get to take one biscuit from Granny but if you land on a purple section then you have to put a biscuit back. Then the red happy and sad face means you get to take a biscuit from another player and finally the no symbol being you miss a turn.
The numbers that go with the section makes the game more interesting further. To the side of granny and on her chair side table you can see a button; the number you receive then determines how many times you press that button.
So, in theory, you:
1. Spin the Wheel
2. Take or give back a biscuit
3. Press the button
If, however, you wake granny up she springs forward and her teeth fly out and the biscuits jump out of the tray.
The Playing

Admittedly it did take several turns to get the movement and then game play in to full swing but once we fully understood it was great fun!

Taking a biscuit and then pressing the button takes me back to the classic games where you would load a mule up without seeing it kicking everything off.

The added competitive streak of taking the most biscuits or giving and taking them from an opponent really adds depth to the game.

This is a great game as a 2 player or to sit down and play as a whole family. It adds excitement, anticipation, fun and silliness compared to other games out at the moment and really has simple but understandable stages of play to keep everyone entertained.

My only advice to playing is not to place the biscuits flat on grannys tray. I would place the round ones stacked together and on their side (vertically standing) and the rectangular biscuits so they are standing tall. Once the biscuits are placed like this it makes a real jump and splash when she jumps up awake. Otherwise only a few biscuits move and it is just her teeth that fly out!

Suitable for ages 5+ and only RRP £19.99. I would see this as being a perfect gift for school aged children this Christmas!
