“I would like to take the opportunity to reassure Muggle purchasers
that the amusing creatures described hereafter are fictional and cannot hurt
you. To Wizards, I say merely: Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus”
Newt Salamander – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
I will be honest and say that since 2001 I have taken that
quote, like any wizard should, quite seriously!
In 2001 J.K Rowling, in support of Comic Relief, released
Fantastic Beasts and Where you can Find Them. It was presented as one of the
school books that is a must have if you enrolled in Hogwarts.
It isn’t quite part of the Harry Potter series but it fits
perfectly well with the wizarding world and for that I am truly thankful for
it.
Scroll forward 15 years, Four Books in the series, a few
additional books alongside and, of course, the films, Harry Potter and the
wizarding world has landed firmly in many of our hearts so much so the book
that was released way back then formed a screenplay and the film is currently
out in the cinema at the moment!
If you haven’t guessed already I am a MASSIVE Harry Potter
fan! Not only do I have the complete set of books I
actually have 6 complete sets of the books. (First Editions, Hardback Children’s
cover, Hardback Adult cover, Paperback Children’s cover, Paperback Adult cover
and, of course, a random set that I have and read (I wouldn’t want to read the
complete other sets now and ruin them!))
So, with the latest film released and every fan and geek up
and down the country screaming with excitement (I did Eek!) I was pleased when
Paladone contacted me asking if I would review their Hogwarts Crest Light!
Knowing Paladone well from other reviews and from the Dad’s play date earlier this year I knew that I couldn’t exactly say no! I also didn’t
think that the geek in my heart would let me!
On opening the box you find a black LED stand with Harry
Potter logo, a USB connecter and the acrylic iconic crest of Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry, which features the symbols of all four houses of
Hogwarts; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
The assembly couldn’t be easier!
You simply insert the acrylic crest into the LED slot
provided and either plug it in with the USB cable or use batteries (not
provided).
Once set, you literally press the button on top and you
allow the magic to happen!
The light is surprisingly bright and the way the LED lights
up the crest is beautiful and fully encompassing every aspect of the Hogwarts
logo and design.
I can see that this would be a perfect gift for fans young
and old; a geek would also enjoy the fact that it is the perfect piece of Harry
Potter memorabilia! The design of the crest is brilliant; it obviously keeps in line with the crest from the stories but the detail is exact! The smooth and clear pattern turns a geeky light into a stylish fixture to any room or desk.
Personally, it is a perfect bedside light for young and old and I can
see it being extremely popular, especially in consideration of the release of
the latest film! The boys, like me, are massive fans and, as seen in the picture, we are currently reading the Philosophers Stone again (although, admittedly, I am not great at the voices) They love the light and currently have it on their bedside which brings the magic really close for them.
First published in 1997, J.K. Rowling's bestselling series
of novels has since become a cultural phenomenon literally bringing magic into
homes worldwide. I can see this being continued for a very long time to
come.
Still not convinced? Then take a hint from Dumbledore
himself:
“Another Christmas has come and gone and I didn’t get a single pair
(socks). People will insist on giving me books”
Albus Dumbledore – Harry Potter and the Philosophers
Stone

Instead of buying the standard
present and insisting it will be fine go and grab one of these lights and
spread some magic this Christmas and currently at £19.99 it seems perfect bargain for anyone!
Oh and if you are still not sure
what “Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus” means, it is Never tickle a sleeping
Dragon! Wise words for us all!
(I was given this product for free to review. My opinions, geeky nature, love of Harry Potter and of all books are my own and I am under no obligations to give a positive review! Please see my full disclosure at the bottom of my blog)
