World Book Day 2017 - Our Favourite Books!

As a Teacher I have always loved World Book day!

Admittedly as a Teacher we usually had to dress up as we requested the children to do. I never really enjoyed this aspect but it was fun for the children to see us take the extra effort too.
Last year I committed a silly thing and showed you a picture of a beardless, glassesless and rather bigger Mr K dressed as Noddy! I was silly but as it is out there now I will put it back in just so you guys can have a laugh!

And I wonder why I am still single?

I continued taking part in the day’s events when William was first at school and as a parent who would try to be original I made a Gruffalo costume; William was absolutely thrilled with it!

Move it on a lot of years and we are still avid book fans  and are often at the library and still make a good effort at taking part within our Home Ed activities. Even if we aren't dressing up!

Today we are looking at our favourite books.

William chose the first 2 Harry Potter books!
Last year William was enjoying books like the Gruffalo but this year his reading has jumped ahead. He still struggles in places but he has loved working through these!

His favourite has got to be the Philosophers Stone and I don't blame him. To read and enter the magical world for the first time is a valid reason to fall in love with the entire series!

Opening the wall into Diagon Alley and you first see magic at all of it's glory is a real special moment for any imagination.

James last year chose The Dinosaur that pooped a planet!

Admittedly James still loves this series of books but he has a new love too; The Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale.

James loves TDTPP story still mostly because of the Poo content! He also enjoys the naughty factor of the Dinosaur that seems to be getting them into more trouble step by step.

But, the Rainbow fish books all share lessons for children to grow with and I think James really enjoys how this story can change and how the characters  misunderstandings are soon changed!

I will always choose Watership down as my favourite book because the story is complex, thought-out and has life lessons for both adults and children!

I must read it 3 or 4 times a year and still love it every single time! And, for anyone who was slightly traumatised by the film as a child is definitely missing out!

However, I wanted to choose a book that I have read for the first time this year!

Harry Potter and the Cursed child seemed the best choice out of the amount that I have read!

I am a massive Harry Potter fan and always enjoy being dragged into the magical world of wizards and witches!

I was sceptical when this was released due to the idea that you should touch or add to anything that is as popular and loved like the HP series but I felt this added another depth.

There are of course moments and critic that I have with it, like the speed the boys grew up at the beginning,  but as a fan but it was definitely a nice addition and definitely worth a read!

What’s your favourite book? Or, What is your child’s favourite? What is the best new book that you have read this year?

How can I possibly choose a favourite book when I can't even select a favourite author?
Saying that I remember as a child me and my brother had a set of 4 Disney 'Story A Day' books (one for each season). Our dad would read us the days story at bedtime every day and I can definitely attribute my love of books and reading to these books.

Oh gosh, I really want to read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I'd totally forgotten about it but I must get around to buying it, it should be my next book because I do love Harry Potter books.

My favourite book is the Dice Man, by Luke Rhinehart. It kind of draws you in and makes a terrible kind of sense.

Oh dear, I have to admit I've never read any Harry Potter and my kids just don't seem interested. I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan and I've just introduced my daughter to the Tiffany Aching series, but we've already read quite a few of his children's books. Although I did find Maurice and His Amazing Rodent pretty traumatising! I love your Noddy outfit, well done for taking part!
Have a lovely week #MySundayPhoto

As a child, I used to read all the time - I was the teenager walking around the house with my face tucked inside a book because I couldn't bear to put it down! Now though, with a house of small children, I just don't get chance to immerse myself in a book like I used to.

I love blogs, though, because they're short and I can dip in and out easily as time permits. I also read lots of books with the kids. My favourite kids book that I've come across recently is "The Velveteen Rabbit" - it's a classic but I'd never read it before and it's well worth a read :)
