Review - Football Chocolate Lolly Making Kit

I am always one of those parents that questions the "filler" present of chocolates for Christmas and Birthdays. It is always a cheaper option as an additional present, children love it and, at the end of the day, it's chocolate; yet, as a parent I always feel a little funny about just giving chocolate as a present.

With that in mind I am always looking for similar present but something that offers more; a present that has all the fun and gives a little more. I was, of course, really pleased when What2buy4kids contacted us to review Football Chocolate Lolly making kit for James' birthday.

This bright and colourful gift comes in several designs to suit the want of the child. We received the Football design but you can also purchase Animal kit and Monsters.

The Kit

The kit contains 125g of chocolate, 5 lolly pop sticks and 5 edible transfers and fun and engaging instructions.

Each stage of the process is clearly presented in both written and picture form that it covers a good age range.

James was able to read and follow the instructions and managed to decipher the sections with more complicated words really easily!

Making the Lolly

Following the instructions James placed the chocolate pieces into a microwaveable bowl.

He then placed it into the microwave for 40 seconds.

As the instructions suggested they needed taking out and stirring and then repeating the above process but at an interval of 10 seconds until it was smooth.

James then placed the transfer strip onto a baking tray. The strip of transfers is usually in one row but due to the size of my tray we carefully cut 2 apart.

With a spoon James filled the transfer circle with the melted chocolate but had to be careful not to use too much.

After each circle was filled James placed the lolly stick into the chocolate and then topped each circle up with the remaining chocolate.

We then placed the tray into the fridge for 30 minutes to set.

Once set and out we carefully peeled the transfer off and the football logo was stuck to the front.

This was such a good activity. It made the treat of chocolate really fun and engaging and made a simple chocolate treat even better!

I can see this as a great present for children and even as part of a party where all children take part in making their own.

It is time consuming, engaging and colourful and perfect for any primary aged children. James absolutely loved making them and was even generous enough to let William and I have one each. They tasted fantastic and as well as being a great gift they were small amount of chocolate for parents who wouldn't want to go overboard on sugary treats.

I for one will be heading back to What2Buy4Kids and ordering some more so we can explore the other themes!

What do you think?
