The Boys behind the Blog - An Introduction

I was having a conversation last week on Twitter with Stevie from A Cornish Mum about the boys and how each one did different things.

It got me thinking through the conversation to how well I really know my two boys; I was certain that I knew them brilliantly then it occurred to me that I have never really discussed the two of them in detail on the blog.

I know I keep you updated with Williams Cooking projects or what he is learning in Home School. I put photos up or I will discuss the difficulties that I might have with them for a variety of reason; however, I haven’t really discussed them as the little people are. So thought that right now would be the ideal time for a brief introduction:

William

William is the eldest; out of the two boys William is the most like me. This is both a blessing and a curse for me. Although he will introduce himself as William he does prefer to be called Will. This will show you what his initial thoughts of you are! If you ask him what his name is and he answers you with William then he instantly is weary of you.

He loves his space; give William a choice between the sofa and the armchair he will choose the armchair every time. Once he has ‘nested’ himself with a couple of cushions and a blanket then you need to realise that the best thing to do is leave him alone. (He definitely gets this from me) If, however, you feel the need to go and talk to him, be silly with him or even play with him then be warned! He will snap and be cross with you! Once he has nested that’s it.

William is the boy who tends to give me cuddles; he always climbs up to me half an hour before bedtime to have a cuddle and watch Simpsons. He is also the one of the two who is more likely to climb into bed with me in the night and cuddle up.

Playing wise; he has always been a boy who has played with cars and likes to be hands on. From a young age he liked dismantling and rebuilding everything, he loves the idea of how things work and their mechanics. His personal preference has always been action figure and combat toys, either individually or independently, as well as sitting and creating animals that are dangerous like monsters, sharks or dragons.

On a bad side of things he does lie! Out of the two, again, he is the one who lies. Sadly it’s pretty obvious that he is because he has my lying face. (This is the main reason why I stopped telling lies years ago and really don’t tell me about any secret surprises if you know that I will see the person; I just can’t hide it at all!) I know that all kids tend to lie at some point but he is the most blatant at trying it.

James

James is the youngest and, from my point of view, is most like his Mum. Due to this fact he is, at times, the one I struggle the most with. James is always on the go, something that I am sure most of you parents with toddlers will understand.  James, like William, will introduce himself differently; he usually introduces himself as ‘Jamesy’ rather than James. To his brother and I though he is called Jim.

James is a boy who loves women; he is usually the first to approach a female adult and initiate play with them. He will also be the one of the two who will seek cuddles and hold your hand. Something that he doesn’t do with men; James is far from affectionate with me.

He is quite happily playing as part of a group or by himself; I believe mainly because of his brother. Where Will likes to have his space at times James will often have to entertain himself.

From an early age if you placed an action toy or a baby doll in front of him he would have always picked up the baby doll. His idea of play has always been more on the social sciences side of things, where he has played house, housekeeping, mummy and dads and interactions of groupings and their social settings:  Farm Yard toys and the relationships between each of the animals as well as the adults.

 In his general play he likes to play kitchen and cleaning. However, when it comes to practical work he hates anything to do with cooking, he would much rather hoover than help me cook.

On his bad side though he has a lot of anger! You might have noticed from my posts that whenever there is trouble that it is usually James that I am talking about. He is the one who likes to argue EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that he possibly can; if through his arguing that he doesn’t get appeased or worse doesn’t get his own way he will try and take it out on the closet thing possible. For example: He should pick up the bottle he has just thrown on the floor then he might just push everything that is on the table on to the floor.

So that's a rough introduction to my two fabulous boys! I hope, for the most part, that it gives you a brief idea of the two boys that I'm often talking so much about.
