It's Your Story - Review and Win!

Today is World Book Day and as a Parent and a Teacher it plays a huge part in our Home Education.

Our Home School journey is now mixed with William working at the top end of KS1 and James working at the Foundation stage level. Working within topics has always been fine; both of the boys learn and produce work accordingly.

When it comes to Literacy it is a bit more difficult.

James has his additional undiagnosed needs which means he is about 18 months behind in writing and reading, although he has been coming along in leaps and bounds.

Reading is a crucial part in pushing James forward. He can identify letters and sounds but struggles with phonemes and graphemes and then whole words which then makes reading difficult at times; this is mostly due to some speech difficulties through pronunciation.

Associating letters and sounds to actual words is difficult. However, thanks to the lovely people at It's your Story we have been sent this fantastic personalised book From A to Z with James.

This large book (21 x 28 cm) is a personalised story that features all of the letters of the Alphabet and engages with colourful illustrations and simple short sentences.

Using their website you can design the book to feature a child individually by giving a picture (which should ideally be a straight on shot) and the child's name.

The personalised touch is instant to see with their photo placed on the front. This then continues with the first page with a dedicated message.

The story then unfolds with each letter.

Each page features a beautifully illustrated picture for that letter as well a photo of the child added to the illustration.

As you can see from the above photos that the combination of the two work brilliantly!

Each letter also helps to promote the child to identify the sound that is used by well crafted alliteration.

Example such as H "There's a Huge Hat on James' Head" or I "I am in an Icy Igloo" get the child reading as well as going on an adventure across 32 pages!

James thoroughly enjoyed his book. Each page made him laugh at the new position he was then "caught" in and made an added interactive narrative to the story. I found the ability to discuss and extend each page really easy: "Do you think it is cold in and Igloo?"

On receiving the book and after reading it James has requested 2 or more times a day since!

As a Parent and a Teacher this book provides not only engaging pages to learn how read letters and sound but also clearly shows what they look like and how they can be repeated to other words. This educational factor then coupled with the fact that the child feels like they also get to go on an adventure seems like the perfect combination.

The quality of the book is fantastic! Large and easy to read print, colourful, cute and child friendly illustrates presented in a full-gloss cover made this a high quality item.

It's your Story also produce a book in the same style and quality for Numbers 1 to 10.

As across the country many children, and adults, are taking part in World Book Day I am pleased to be able to offer a giveaway to win a book bundle.

Thank you SO much for this review. We've tried to combine learning with having lots of fun and making it relevant to the child - seems like we hit the mark with James! Really appreciate the feedback.

You're more than welcome! They're fab books and of great quality so it's justly deserved! And you definitely did, he adores it!

I had loads of favourite books, the one that is springing to mind from when I was really young was Anne of Green Gables. I used to spend hours reading when I was younger, I often wish I had the time to do that now.

The Adventures of The Little Wooden Horse by Ursula Moray Williams. I can remember my infant school teacher reading it to us, a chapter every day, and I just couldn't wait to know what happened next.
