Following our series of working alongside iChild and making firework crafts in celebration of Bonfire night we decided to make a some chalk pictures!
We saw this craft and the boys loved the look of it but on closer inspection we found out that it contained glitter and for anyone who knows me you will know that I HATE glitter! With this in mind we decided to adapt and change the craft slightly.
So, here is how you can make a Firework Chalk picture:
Resources
Black Card
Glue
Paint Brush
Chalk/Pastels
Method
As with previous activities, we spent time looking and reading the instructions that were clearly laid out on the easy access activity sheet.
The boys started off by using black card to create a distinctive contrasting background.
Using a white and straight piece of card William and James drew straight lines with a paint brush and PVA glue. They made this fan out into an "exploding star" design by moving the card around in a circle.
Using a grater William and James scored coloured chalk down one side creating a colour array of powdered chalk.
With the chalk on a separate piece of card gently shake the dust over the glued star pattern.
James was keen on putting all of the colours together onto the card. William, however, decided to build his colours and layers up.
With the different layers of chalk built up and all of the glue covered take the sheet outside to blow any excess powder off. Alternatively you could tap it onto a separate piece of paper and reuse any excess on further chalk pictures!
The best part of this activity is the from a parents perspective is the time it takes. You can easily replicate these patterns and styles to create an array of pictures over a space of an afternoon.
For children they are being creative and messy and importantly being engaged in a fun activity!
What do you think? Would you give this a try?
Also, I can't be the only anti glitter person, can I?
(I was given this product for free to review. My opinions are my own and I am under no obligations to give a positive review! Please see my full disclosure at the bottom of my blog)
