Home School - Firework Rocket

Following our series of working alongside iChild and making firework crafts in celebration of Bonfire night we decided to make a firework rocket!

Out of a lot of the crafts available the boys were really keen to make this. I think that the how to guide looks quite cool; I think every child likes the idea of making a rocket!

So, here is how you can make a Firework Rocket:

Resources

Cardboard rolls (toilet rolls are a perfect size)
Tissue Paper
Glue
Scissors
Cellotape
String or Cotton thread

 Method

The boys started off by going through the instruction sheet and understanding the different elements that is needed.

Using a cardboard roll the boys measured out a square of tissue paper that was bigger in length and width; the boys measure double the width and length.

They both then cut the square of tissue paper out of 4 different coloured sheets.

Using pva glue William and James glued down one side. They used a paint brush to make sure they didn't make it too messy.

William and James then stuck the cardboard roll to the glued side of tissue paper and begun to roll it up.

Once it was fully rolled the boys painted one more glue strip to seal the tissue paper down.

Once both end were sealed William and James tucked in the excess tissue paper into the holes to create a tight and tide rocket body.

Using the third activity resource sheet from iChild the boys need to cut out the different sections provided.

Along with the circle and the stars the boys cut out the coloured strips. They both had decided that they wanted to keep and use some of the white stripes with the coloured ones.

The boys then cut a small piece of matching tissue paper to cover over the white circle; once glued on they cut the lined slit mark.

William and James measured out 30cm strips of cotton thread for each rocket.

William and James, using tape, stuck the thread to the back of the circle and pulled the string through the slit.

Carefully gluing one side if the slit they moved the paper to form a cone.

Every rocket must have a colourful and exploding tail! With this in mind the boys stuck the coloured and white strops of paper the inside.

The boys decided that they only wanted some of their rockets to have the stars on and used this time to glue them to the rockets of their choice!

Finally, using some tape, the boys stuck the rocket top to the body.

With the rockets complete the boys had great fun running around and flying their firework rockets!

Although there are quite a few stages to follow and do there isn't a complicated element involved. The design is colourful and effecting and does exactly what it is meant to.

The boys loved making this and even more fun playing with it and definitely added enjoyment into our firework themed crafts. iChild, once again, had a brilliant resource available for school aged children.

What do you think? Want to give this a try?
