Home School - Pipe Cleaner Fireworks

We are really big fans here when celebrating Bonfire night. With this in mind we were both pleased and excited when iChild asked us to try out some of their resources and craft ideas!

They have several crafts for making different fireworks and hopefully you will see both on this blog this week; we did, however, decide to do this one first!

Here is how to make a pipe cleaner firework mobile!

Resources

Pipe Cleaners (Preferably sparkly)
String or Cotton Thread
Scissors

Method

The boys started by choosing which pipe cleaners they wanted to use and then folding them in half.

Once they were folded in half William and James cut through the middle halving the pipe cleaners.

Choosing colour patterns they gathered the cleaners into a sheaf and then used a separate cleaner to tie them in the middle.

Once the sparkly pipe cleaners were tied the boys pulled the ends apart making "a messy spider".

William and James measured out 30cm strips of cotton thread for each sheaf.

The boys then tied the thread around the middle so the fireworks could hang.

William made a pink and gold, blue and silver and a purple and mixed coloured pipe cleaner fireworks.

James didn't want to group the colours together but instead wanted to use every colour mixed together in his fireworks.
This activity was extremely easy but also time consuming. It took the boys just over an hour from start to finish to make 3 sets and in my opinion makes a great afternoon activity.
The easy how to guide from iChild was great to follow and the limited number of steps made meant that anyone could follow and create their own.
The boys absolutely loved making these and created the bang (pun intended) we needed to start our firework crafts!
(I was given this product for free to review. My opinions are my own and I am under no obligations to give a positive review! Please see my full disclosure at the bottom of my blog)
