Review - Pop Up Darth

We were given a great opportunity to review some new games from Tomy; Pop-Up Darth Vader

We instantly loved this game and it is a great match for our geeky little household; including the adults!

Each game came with a Star Wars barrel. The best part to the barrel, with the use of batteries, is the sound effects from the movies and including the deep breathing from that character.

Of course we get Darth Vader. I loved the detail within the character. I expected it to be quite generic but the detail and the shape is perfectly matched to the original design as well as to fit into the top of the barrel.

Then finally, 12, grouped, coloured Light Sabers that fit into the side of the barrel.

With Darth placed and pushed with a twist into the barrel the boys were ready to test it out!

This classic style game works on the principle that each player pushes one sword into a slot on the side of the barrel.

Each movement creates more and more tension as the player who pushes the sword in that makes Darth jump out is then out of the game.

You cant quite see it here but the above photo has a blurry black figure in the air jumping out.

So what do we think?
From my point of view this is a classic action game that I had as a child but with a modern and geeky twist! The detail in the pieces and the design has made this a more unique game compared to the classic older brother. The fact that you have light saber swords as well as sounds and music fills any little, or big, geeks heart to want to continue playing.

The game continues to be a family favourite and mostly because of the simple rules and the continual anticipation as you never know when the Dark Lord will pop!

Due to the simplicity of the game it can be a quick play of head-to-head or ,made longer with family competitions with up to 4 players so you can keep playing in rounds: the last player left is the winner! .

With the run up to Christmas I can see this being a popular family buy!
