
One of the best things about living in Medway and Kent is
how much history is around and with that comes fantastic festive events!
I thought I would write about some of these that are available
and with that the ones that we would be attending too!
Events!
The Christmas Carol Trail
Thursday 1st – 24th
A chance to take part in a free mystery trail! With Rochester being a home of Charles Dickens
the mystery trail allows you to keep a look out for Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Marley’s
chain and many other characters and items from the famous book. All you need to do is grab a map from the
Guildhall Museum and find everything hidden in the shops!
Rochester Christmas MarketFriday 2nd 11am – 6pm, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th 10am – 7pm
Rochester Castle garden are immersed in a Christmas themed
adventure. A chance to explore magical stalls for gifts and quirky stocking
fillers whilst enjoying mulled wine, hot chocolate, sizzling sausage and
roasted chestnuts whilst you wander through the market with fun loving
characters!
Dickensian Christmas Festival
Saturday 3rd and 4th
Here is a chance to become enchanted by a feast of Victorian
delights and festivities. Rochester
becomes a winter wonderland with the lamps lit, parades, reindeer, an open air
carol concert and street performers!
If you want directed activities then pop along to Rochester
Library and join in with some festive craft activities! (4-10 years)
A Winters Trail
Monday 5th – 31st
Aimed at Children aged 5 – 12 years and their families to
take part in a Christmas themed trail around Rochester castle! A great chance
to explore the historic site and have some fun! 80p per child and normal
admission prices required but there will be a chance for the children to win a
small prize! *Please check the website for opening times*
The Victorians – A Christmas Trail
Monday 5th – 31st 10am - 5pm
Here is a chance to take part in a Victorian themed Christmas
trail around the Guildhall museum! A great activity for all ages and that is
both fun and educational; a chance to learn about our modern day traditions and
their origins like where did Christmas crackers come from! 80p per child and
free entry to the museum but please check the website for Christmas opening
hours!
Baby bounce and rhyme
Tuesday 13th 10.30 – 11am
If you have a child 18 months or younger then there is a fantastic
festive themed baby bounce and rhyme available if you wanted to pop over to
Chatham library!
Alternatively,
Toddler Shake and Boogie
Thursday 15th 10.30 – 11am
If you have children aged 18 months to 4 years old you can
join in some festive themed fun over at Chatham library and shake a move, do
the twist and boogie to Christmas songs.
Christingle Workshop
Saturday 17th 2 – 3pm
Don’t have any time in the run up to Christmas to attend a
Christingle service at your local church? Then pop along to Gillingham library
on a Saturday afternoon and take part in their crafts and making a Christingle orange!
Rustic Christmas Decoration
Tuesday 20th 10am – 12pm
Happy to get your hands dirty and be surrounded by nature?
Then pop along to Capstone Farm Country Park and join in their rustic Christmas
decoration event and create a centre piece for your table or tree and suitable
for all ages. £3 per person and you may need to book your place prior to the

Christmas Wreath making
Wednesday 21st 10am –
12pm
Want to make your own Christmas wreath? Then come down to
Riverside Country Park and make your own for Christmas! Take part in creating
and constructing your own and finding out how a traditional wreath is made and
get a chance to take your own home.
£3 per person but suitable for the whole family! You may
need to book ahead to get your slot: 01634 337432

Rustic Christmas presents
Wednesday 21st 10am-12pm
Want to be outdoors and back to nature but still join in the
festive activities? Come down to Capstone Park and create a rustic Christmas present
from materials found around the park. Suitable for all ages and costs £3 per

Shows and Performances!

A Christmas Carol
Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th
Set in the beautiful old court room at Rochester’s Guildhall
museum the Dickens theatre company return with a ambient candlelit production.
Six actors play out Charles Dickens most famous story and following their
sell-out tour in 2015 I would definitely make sure that you didn’t miss out!

The Smallest House Mouse and the
Christmas Cat
Friday 2nd to Saturday 24th It is Christmas Eve and the evil Weasel has put a terrible plan into place to stop Christmas forever! Oh no! You can join the smallest house Mouse and the Christmas Cat and go along on the adventure and see if they can save Christmas for everyone at the Brook Theatre in Chatham. Suitable for children aged 3 – 6.

Jack and the Beanstalk
Thursday 8th to 31st
It wouldn’t be the run up to Christmas without visiting the
Central theatre, Chatham to watch the panto!
This year we get the chance to enjoy the adventures of Jack
and the beanstalk, magical growing beans, villains and the giant! As always,
expect a fantastic cast, music and all of the pantomime favourites. This year
we have Olympic Gold Medallist and Dancing on Ice star Robin Cousins,
Hannah-Jane from CBBC and Joe Tracini (Joe Pasquale’s son) from Hollyoaks!
If it is like any other years then you will know this is one
not to miss!
