Out of the Mouth of Babes #11

This weeks post comes from both boys.

We decided that our Sunday film would be the sequel to the Wizard of Oz, The Return to Oz. In watching it William had a few observations:

William: "Daddy, I'm confused"
Me: "What about?"
William: "Well, Tick Tock was kept because he can't turn to stone by the witch because he isn't alive and just a metal man?"
Me: "Yes, that's right, why are you confused?"
William: "Why was the Tin Man turned to stone? he isn't alive either and he's a metal man!"

I had no answers and I think William has found a hole in the plot here. For anyone who has seen it, do you have an answer?

James was more concerned about Tick Tocks health:

James: "Daddy, is Tick Tock Disabled like you?"
Me: "No, Darling, he's a robot, why do you think he is Disabled?"
James: "Well, he walks like you, doesn't he?"

Later on the film decided to confirm James' worries.

On the characters reaching the great staircase in the palace Tick Tock stops:

James: "Oh no Daddy! He is Disabled! He can't go upstairs like you, see!"
Me: "That's because he's a robot James, not because he's disabled"
James: "I think you're wrong Daddy. I wonder if he has a special car like you?"

Later in the film we see the characters flying on Gump the MooseSofa:

James: "Ah, You're getting your new car soon, do you think you can get a Gump?"

I have a feeling that James will be hugely disappointed!

After such deep questioning on Sunday we were followed by this random conversation on the Monday.

William after breakfast was still feeling hungry and asked if he could have a Cereal bar. I, of course, said it was ok.

This following conversation then happened:

William: "James do you want a cereal bar?"
James: "Yes, but I'm on the toilet!"
William: "That's Okay, they're breakfast on the go and you're going!"

So there we go for this week. We have had deep questioning and some simple childhood logic! Hope to see you for the next one!

Haha classics! But to be fair that movie is pretty confusing. Not to mention TERRIFYING. Your picture of those wheeler guys is giving me nightmarish flashbacks! :)

Haha these are brilliant! Yes, I think he has discovered a plot flaw up there with Indiana Jones' total irrelevance to Raiders of the Lost Ark there! James may also be concerned about the daleks - they can't go up stairs either! Great how kid logic works, and how they apply things they see to what they know. Love the cereal bar - career in marketing there! #ftmob

The Wizard of Oz is very confusing - sound like they've got it sussed! #ftmob

The better question is why even make a sequel to a movie that was made in the 1930s! Leave well enough alone already, good catch by your son!

To my surprise, my eldest done a stage show of The Wizard of Oz in his final year of Infant school. Of course, we just had to go out and buy it so I, sorry, the boys could watch it. whilst they actually enjoyed watching it, they preferred the other version they came home with after a shopping trip with Mum. It was a Tom and Jerry feature film.

You just can't beat the classics.

Love William's comment about cereal bars being breakfast on the go and that's okay because James was going, so funny! I haven't watched Return to Oz in years - it was quite scary when I was little though. Good thinking from William about that hole in the plotline although maybe the tin man is vulnerable because the Wizard gave him a heart in the original film? I can see James' logic as to why Tik Tok might be disabled and I think you're right that he is going to be a little disappointed in the lack of Gump car! Thanks for linking up to #ftmob :-)
