This, obviously, has meant that I have caught some fantastic
conversations between the two and enough for me to share with you.
So my series “Out of the Mouth of Babes” has come back with
some festive spirit!
That's not really Santa!
The Boys have always spent Christmas Day with me; a fact
that I am always happy about. This also means that they are aware that Santa
brings their presents to Daddy’s House.
I think this may have had something to do with this
following conversation:
Picking the Boys up one evening and they were carrying a
book each.
Me: “What’s that you’ve got their Boys?”
James: “These are Home School books. We got them
from Santa”
Me: “Wow. That’s really good! When did you see
Santa?”
James: “At Home School Group with Mummy”
William: “You do know it wasn’t really Santa James, don’t
you?”
James: “Yeah it was, he gave us presents!”
(I had no idea what was happening, as far as I knew William
still believed in him. So what on earth was going on?)
Me: “William, how do you know it wasn’t the real
Santa, It could have been him?”
William: “No, It wasn’t him.
It was just one of his helpers dressed up as him.”
(Phew! He believes in Santa but
just saw this guy as a helper. I can work with that!)
Me: “Are you really sure
though? Could have been him”
William: “Yeah, I’m sure. His
beard looked a bit squiffy and he also we saw him with Mummy and not you. We
know you know Santa because he brings you our presents. I don’t think Mummy
knows him so it must have been his helper to make sure that we are all being
good!”
Well I couldn’t argue with his
logic there. So I went along the route of that and said that he does send some
helpers out. Note to self: When we go and see Santa make sure the beard looks
good!
Those Christmas lights are just Poor!
The second conversation I wanted to share with you was another from the inside of our car. Driving home we have enjoyed looking at everybody’s Christmas lights and decorations. It has got to the point that we are now rating the good ones and the bad ones.
It is quite common for the Boys to
choose their favourite and also to say if some house’s, in their words, “could
do better”.
There is one near us that is
absolutely brilliant! We really love it and it doesn’t matter how many times we
have driven past it we all stare in awe.
Anyway, we were driving a long
investigating the lights and this conversation happened:
James: “I like that house.
The lights are pretty but they could have more. It’s not a 10!”Me: “I agree. But it did look good!”
At this point we are driving along an exposed road along the river and from this point we can look across and see our semi-local Power Station.
James: “Oo I like those
lights Daddy but I think they’re rather poor. They could really do with more!”
Me: “Where? I don’t see any
houses with lights!”
James: “No. Over there. The
Power Station could really do better they’re just poor!”
Well I couldn’t really argue with
him. They are not that festive!

Haha! Love the Santa logic! &, yes, the power station needs to step up its festive efforts - cranes often manage to be festive! (Though I can see how it might be counter productive for the power station to contribute to the Christmas lights energy usage it is needing to power! Maybe the power station is just being selfless and letting others have the lights!) #FTMOB
I sometimes wonder what kids make of the fact that there are so many different santas running around. It's great that they just assume they are helpers instead of considering the alternative

Oh thats what I got told, the real Santa is far too busy making toys so he sends elves out to be Santa!
